What a strange day
It’s clear
I guess they know, I am getting out alive
Despair there at work
I go on my regular walk
The little, small dog is pulling me harder than the oxen tilling the fields
What the hell is his problem?
I almost turn around, but the little guy has got to get out and sniff the green grass
Pick up a sandspur or two
So on we walk or I walk and he pulls
Whatever
A woman in the distance
Dark, wearing all black coming our way
Holding her slipper, wearing the other one
I politely hold him back as always
Damn dog pulls
Getting closer
She’s tapping her chest in a rhythmic way and chanting
What the hell is her problem?
Shanti chanting it seems
She draws closer
Rhythmic walk
Tapping chanting tapping chanting
Her eyes meet mine
There’s nothing there! Hollow and her lips of vitiligo rappity rapping
What is she saying?
It’s the most ominous thing
And whoosh, what’s that feeling?
Has she just stole my soul?
Damn dog pulling
Never have I seen such a walk and a talk or such a sauntering shoeless thing
A woman entranced by Santaria
Voodoo trance
Dog stops pulling, takes a poo
And she’s coming back this way
Oh no! We’re trapped
Hurry up dog!
I stand and face her head on
Summon the power of the Tocabagas, the Lakota Siouxs
Eyes lock again distantly
Stomp my left foot, stomp my right
Ripple the energy out
Feathers and bells on my feet
Ripple the energy out towards her
She stops, she knows, she feels it barricade her back
She’s taken aback, doesn’t move an inch more
Dog knows, dog sounds off
Something fierce
We flee
Can’t get away
What has she done to me?
We can’t take the shortcut
Oh damn this strange day!
Damn dog pulling
We take the long way
I can’t sit still when I get home
Now I’m in the Voodoo trance
Eyes rolling back
Say a prayer and a solemn one
Wings of angels conceal us, me and the dog
Don’t drink the spell, conjure my soul back!
What the hell was that!?
Damn strange day!
